Keeping Grandparents Entertained

Becky & I had a real enjoyable time at our granddaughter's 2nd birthday party last night. This kid knows how to celebrate! Of course, she had a high density extra large painter's dropcloth underneath her and all nearby celebrators for protection of both them and the floor. Happy Birthday Stella!

On the other hand, Ivy kept it clean. Oh, she tried to pile some of Stella's cake in her mouth, but quick thinking adults kept the sugar abuse to a minimum and the outfit stayed impeccable for the night. Just wait little one - you're turn isn't that far away!

Ongoing RV 10 aircraft building

Richard VanGrunsven started building planes in North Plains, OR in the 1970's or so. Friends liked what he had built and wanted to build their own planes. At this time his plane was a one seater. Thousands of kits have been sold over the last couple of decades and more than 4800 planes built in garages, warehouses & hangars are finished and flying. Van's Aircraft is now located at the South end of Aurora State's runway. In 2003 Van's started selling their four seater kit plane (RV 10). Bruce and I were the 18th to buy this model in the United States. Since then we have been building to the point of having the tailcone done and moving onto the wings.
This is the group (some) of RV 10 builders here in Oregon.

Here is Bruce with the tailcone of our RV 10 (includes the horizontal and vertical stabilizer, elevators and rudder).

This is the elevator push rod inside the tailcone. It runs smooth as can be to operate the elevator.

Here is our tailcone next to the Cessna 172 in our hangar.

The sad thing is, is that we had to take apart the tailcone and hang the parts from the ceiling so we can have room to work on the wings. Oh well, it was fun seeing it together for a short amount of time. The feeling of accomplishment will have to hold us over for quite some time.
