Horizontally Stabilized

Back to the Christavia...

The horizontal Stabilizer is built in halves. The inner leading edge has a bend about a foot from it's attachment at the fuselage. There is an additional tube support piece inserted and welded in place to strengthen the area. The end is welded shut and the bend point is heated with the torch and bent to the correct angle. I used little pieces of scrap to orient the inner tube with the outer tube.

Rae Ann and the kids showed up from Baltimore and came out to the hangar. Stella and Ivy showed us what a cool Jungle Gym the plane would make if it were set up in our back yard. On Saturday morning we took off for the monthly Twin Oaks breakfast. Rae Ann got it right when she commented how smooth the air is in the morning! The kids had a good time, eating, spilling, looking at planes.

Becky had to weld up a dozen little engine mounts. She loves this kind of welding! Eventually, 4 of them found their way onto the nose of the fuselage. The others will be used to make the actual mounting bracket to attach the engine to the fuselage.
