The Big Bend
For the most part, the pictures speak for themselves on this post. So...
Today's assignments involved tapering the front of the aircraft by bending the nose in by 3 inches on a side and bringing the back 8 ft together at the tailpost. To protect the wooden table, soaking wet rags were laid down and covered with a sheet of steel.
Becky got to learn (me too) what a "Rosebud" is in the world of torches. Lets just accept the fact that these tips burn a lot of fuel - really fast! Joints were heated as a little pressure was applied to bring the sides in a bit both fore and aft.
After it was done, we went to work placing crossmembers in between the sides to hold them in place. Care was taken to keep the sides equidistant from the midline of the plane. Try to build it as "true" as possible!
