Spring has sprung

Well, it is time to renew the chicken flock. We are adding 10 new little egg layers to the mix.

What was really nice is that we got them at 3 weeks old which means they had started to get their feathers and did not need the normal brooding set up that one needs for 2 day old chicks (I did not have to be vigilant to keeping their area at 75 degrees).
I built the chicken wire fortress because we were leaving for the beach for a long weekend and I did not want birds of prey or anything else getting in.



Mmm...there is nothing like the promise of lilacs.
Just a reminder of old man winter...
